Wearable Art

This past term our focus in learning has been on wearable arts. We had to make something in belonging to Ata Hapara. My group (Mailli, Naquita, Jade, Kymaira and I) choosed to do a beach, because the New Brighton beach is a big part of the New Brighton community. But as we went on planning we saw that a Pukeko would be a better fit. We had a few difficuties but got there in the end. Here is a picture of some of my mahi.

Learning in lockdown

How is your learning in lockdown? do you find it easier? Well let me tell you about mine, from learning normally, to online meets, to normal learning, to now has been a heck of a journey, let me tell you that and I really miss being around my friends and being at school. Mainly because of my friends but also because it's a lot more easier to me to learn social, then it is online. I find my mind does not focus as much because there is no one to push me as much as there would be if I were to be at school. I would say one thing I enjoy about online learning is that I don't have to wake up as early. But thats my opinion about online learning, how about you?

My Lockdown

Do you like lockdown? Well as. some of you know New Zealand is in level 4 for the 2nd time and it's much worse this time. But do I like lockdown? I do and don't, yes I miss my friends, going out and partly school but lockdown has made me more creative and has made my social practise with my bubble of family very helpful. Oh and let's not forget about how much more cleaning iv'e been doing then usual, it's painful. But I miss being able to connect with my friends and I miss school lots. But how's your lockdown?

Jupiter and Mars

Today I had to write about Jupiter and Mars, here is some of my mahi.

Whakatuki

Kia ora, today I had to find and share a whakatuki that relate to my whānau during lockdown.

I chose this whakatuki saying we should work for the wellbeing of everyone. I thought this one related to us because I feel like our way of working is wearing a mask and social distancing and it's protecting the wellbeing of everyone.

Kids In Space

Yesterday the year 6,7 and 8's learnt about space. "What about did you learn about space?" well we learnt a lot of things, we learnt how people go to the toilet in space, what food you eat, we learnt about the space shuttle, we learnt about what he colour of there suites represent, we learnt about the planet, and the robot that landed on space (Persiverence) , we learnt about a fidget spinner in space, we learnt how they sleep etc. We also did a few activitys that were fun we made a helicopter out of paper and a rocket ship out of paper aswell as coding bee-bots

The orange suite is the suite they wear when they are coming back from and to space just incase something goes wrong with the rocket ship like if they were to paracute due to technical issues this would make it easier to see the astronut coming down from the sky.

The white suite is that colour because it reflect the most sunlight so it will protect them from getting a sort of cancer.

The blue suite is for the trainors and the boss of the space ship.

My experience with being in kid in space was a really fun opportunity and I personally learnt lots of things about space. Do you learning about space??

Waka Tete

For the past day my group Ruby, Iziah, TK, Tui and I have been researching on the waka Tete. We had to find out what is was made out of, how many people can fit into it and what tools were used to make it.

I found it hard and easy at the same time I guess the thing I found hard was having to find out what tools were used and the thing I found easy was finding what it was made out of and how many people it could hold.

Here is some of groups MAHI
Any feedback?

First we had the tell the differences between the Kai Tahu version and the Ngati Parou version by using a venn diagram. We had an options choice between a D.L.O, sand art, dance and telling the story on a video.

Kymaira and I picked making video. Here is some of my work.       VIDEO

Histogram

On May 20th we learnt about how to display data  on a histogram graph. We learnt that when using a histogram you are displaying continouos data. You should always have grouped data when using a histogram.

We learnt that the difference between a bar graph and a histogram is that on a histogram the bars are joined unlike a bar graph where the bars are spaced out.

Minecraft Mystery Box Monday: Build a Whare in the Sky

For the past 2 Mondays a small group of year 5-8 have been doing mystery minecraft. The mystery build was a sky base.

I was in a group with Naquita and Kymaira-Lee.

We made a tower/kingdom type theme. Most of the blocks were stone.

The most difficult part of building the tower was probably building  the base of it and the build not having much space to fit furniture in it.

One thing I would make different about the build would probably be the size of it.

Mothers Day

For the past 5-6 hours, or so, as a ropu, have been researching qoutes and poems for Mothers Day, making origami flowers and we also made sugar scrub.

First we researched some qoutes and poems to put in the card. The second thing we did was make origami flowers, that I made with Jade, Mailli and Mareko. The flowers turned out looking pretty good looking knowing that i'm not the best at origami. Moving on to the third thing we did (in year groups) ,we made sugar scrub. There was a treat between all the year groups from year 4-8 based off who could act the best and work together the most as a team, I know based off my knowledge and being in the same group my year group came last because of the way some of the boys acted.

Have you ever made sugar scrub? Tell me in the comments.

I found this activity entertaining, easy and fun. My favourite was making origami flowers to put on the card. -Happy early Mothers Day to all the mums out there. But to one of the specialest people to me, my mum.

My Digital Portrait

For the past week or so Ata Hapara have been working on a digital portrait using Sumo Paint. Sumo Paint is a app that you use when you are making something a online piece of art. We had to take a picture of our face and then upload it to Sumo Paint to outline it and colour it. Here is what it turned out like...

What The Saying There Is Power In Small Things Means To Me

He iti hoki mokoroa nana i kakati te kahikatea-'while the mokoroa grubis small, it cuts through the white pines.

Meaning-There is power in small things.

The meaning to me- No jobs too big, no one's to small, you can do anything.
